Manicure experiment: The Moon Nails

Ciao ragazze!!! Avevo visto un sacco di foto delle moon nail, ma non le avevo ancora provate finché il post di Korina e i salvabuchi dei raccoglitori mi hanno ispirato. La mia prima avventura con le moon nails è durata ben due giorni!

Ecco ciò che ho usato per questa manicure:

– base,
– smalto chiaro,
– smalto scuro,
– top coat o uno smalto trasparente e… lunette per french manicure!

Non trovavo i salvabuchi e ho scoperto che le guide della french sono delle ottime sostitute.
Volevo provare come smalto chiaro un bel crema, ma quello che ho è (Sheer Pale Pink, Avon) è troppo liquido e difficile da usare per me, così è rimasto nel dimenticatoio ed ho optato per Cotton Candy (Avon, fuori produzione), un allegro rosa zucchero filato. Ne ho steso due strati, ho applicato le guide sul dorso della mia mano, in modo da essere più delicate sullo smalto, e le ho applicate alla base di ogni unghia premendo bene (fig.3). Ho usato le guide della Nailene.
Nella confezione ci sono 3 fogli di adesivi per la french delle mani e dei piedi, per un totale di 96 guide! Non mi piace molto la french sui piedi, quindi mi divertirò a creare qualcos’altro con le strisce.
Ho applicato due strati di Cherry Jubilee (Avon) aspettando che ogni strato asciugasse bene. E’ un fantastico color amarena lucido, che ne pensate?
Il mio primo giorno di esperimenti si è concluso nel peggiore dei modi: mia sorella bussò al campanello e ho dovuto tirare via le lunette troppo presto per andare a cucinare, rovinando la maggior parte delle mie unghie laccate! Il giorno seguente ho continuato l’esperimento su un unghia finta Nailene. Ho deciso di utilizzare Sheer Pale Pink (fuori produzione), un crema con un leggerissimo tocco rosato, ne ho applicato tre strati per nascondere il colore dell’unghia finta, ho aspettato che l’ultimo strato di smalto si asciugasse e applicato la guida, ho continuato con due strati di Cherry Jubilee e ho finito con uno strato di smalto trasparente.
Il top coat ha uniformato la texture dei due smalti e ha reso la manicure super lucida! Ora che ho sperimentato due colori azzeccati, non vedo l’ora di riprovare la moon nails. Credo che la prossima volta farò molte più foto e scriverò delle istruzioni passo-passo illustrate nel blog.

Dalla mia esperienza di due giorni ho imparato che:

– non bisogna avere fretta;
– è meglio sperimentare sulle unghie finte per acquistare più sicurezza;
– alcuni oggetti possono essere usati per vari scopi (le guide);
– bisogna assicurarsi che la propria sorella (o chi vive con voi) abbia le chiavi e che non rompa. 😉

Hi honeys!!! I’ve seen a lot of moon nails photos on the net, but I hadn’t tried them untill Korina’s post and her paper hole reinforcement stickers have ispired me. My first moon nails adventure lasted two days! Here are what I used for my manicure:

– a base coat,
– a light nail polish,
– a darker nail polish,
– a top coat or a clear polish and… french guides!

I haven’t found the hole reinforcement stickers but I’ve noticed that french guides can be perfect substitutes. I wanted to use a cream colour as my light nail polish, but my Sheer Pale Pink (Avon, discontinued) was too liquid and hard to use to me, so I used Cotton Candy (Avon, discontinued) a cheerful pink that looks like a cotton candy. I applied two coats, I applied the guides on the back of my hands (in this way they will be gentle on the polish) and applied them on the base of each nail by pressing well (image 3). I used Nailene‘s Perfect Tips and Toes. The package contains three sheets with guides for nails and toes, a total of 96 guides! I don’t like toes with french pedicure, so I think I will use the toes stripes for something else. After the guides, I applied two coats of Cherry Jubilee (Avon) I waited untill each coat was well dry. Cherry Jubilee is a fantastic bright sour cherry colour, what do you think about?

My first day of experiment finished sadly: my sister knocked at the door, I pulled the guides too soon and I started cooking… I ruined a big part of my fresh polished nails! The day after I continued the experiment on a Nailene false nail. I decided to use Sheer Pale Pink, a light cream with a hint of pink, I applied three coats to cover the nail, I waited, I applied the guide, I painted the rest of the nail with two coats of Cherry Jubilee and I finished with a clear polish. This clear coat uniformed the textures of each nail polish and made my manicure extra glossy! I think I’ve found two perfect colours, I look forward to retry the moon nails. I think I will snap more photos and write an illustrated step by step instructions on the blog. From my two days experience I’ve learned that:

– I don’t have to be in a hurry;
– it’s better to try a new manicure on a false nail before;
– some tools can be used for other useful purposes (guides, false nails…)
– it’s better to be sure that your sister (or who lives with you) has the house keys. ;-D
